What is stain block paint?
Stain block paint is a primer product that effectively covers imperfections such as graffiti, various stains, grease and nicotine. If your interior or exterior surfaces are stained, you can apply stain block paint prior to decorating to prevent the stain from appearing through your coloured paint or wallpaper.
Why is stain block paint not working?
Most instances where stain block paint is not working is when not enough coats have been applied or if the wrong product has been applied to a specific stain. All of our stain block paint product pages have a section on Recommended Applications where you can match a specific stain or surface to the product and check if it would cover the stain.
Can I use gloss paint as stain block?
Gloss paint should not be used as stain block as it does not have the specialist components to prevent stains (such as graffiti, grease, tobacco and more) from appearing through. Doing this would be a waste of gloss paint and labour as the stain would appear through once the gloss paint had dried.
All of our stain block paints have specialist & niche capabilities to cover any type of stain. We would recommend reviewing each stain block paint product’s page for Recommended Applications if you require an effective product to cover a specific stain.
What’s the best stain block paint?
The best-seller stain block paint is Zinsser BIN Primer-Sealer & Stain Killer. It is the most popular amongst our customers in decorating trade and DIY as it can be applied to all surfaces without sanding, including glass.
