What is powder filler?
Powder filler is a type of filler which is dried and needs to be mixed with water to turn into a paste before application. It’s particularly suitable for filling holes, gaps or cracks in
We recommend using a quick drying powder filler that can be used both indoors and outdoors, such as Mangers All Purpose Powder Filler. This product is also strong enough to be used for surfaces where screws or nails will be used.
How to use powder filler?
Before beginning to mix your filler, you should remove any loose material from the area you want to fill by brushing it clean.
Mix your filler together with a ratio of 2.5 parts powder to 1 part water. Pour the water first then add the powder to it, and mix together until it turns into a wet paste. To apply your filler, use a filling knife or trowel to add the filler to the problem area, starting from the centre and working outwards.
If you are working with wood, larger repairs, or on a vertical surface, we recommend creating a stiffer mix by using less water.
How long does powder filler take to dry?
The filler will remain workable for approximately 1.5 hours after application, and touch dry after around 2 hours. You should leave it to dry completely for 24 hours before (if required) applying a second coat or sanding down to create a smooth appearance. You can then apply paint or other finishes as desired. Don’t forget to wash your tools after use so that they don’t get coated in dried filler!
